Why Nashville Outdoor Lighting Can Give You The Biggest “Bang For Your Buck” When Weighing Your Spring Improvement Options:

Belle Meade architectural LED lighting and tree lighting by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of NashvilleTis the season when many Nashville homeowners begin planning ways to enhance their outdoor environment in preparation for the quickly approaching outdoor living season ahead. They attend home & garden shows to gain inspiration, look through lawn & garden magazines and surf the internet for ideas.Though there is a large impetus on making over a landscape, or adding an outdoor living space such as a deck or patio within many mediums, have you ever taken a moment to notice almost all of these tantalizing images are enhanced with outdoor lighting? The emphasis of outdoor lighting is often downplayed where large-scale improvements are concerned, but if you look at the pictures closely, in almost every project design or makeover, outdoor lighting is present.

Outdoor lighting of Nashville welcomes you with open arms

Professional outdoor lighting is timeless and never goes out of style!

If you are unsure which key elements should be part of your upcoming exterior home addition, or makeover plans, outdoor lighting delivers the biggest bang for your buck because it is timeless. If you are looking to remodel or upgrade your home, creating lasting value is a top concern. According to a recent article on Houselogic, courtesy of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, lighting improvements ( both exterior & interior) are listed as one of the top 9 home improvement projects that never go out of style! In addition, some of the other improvements on the list such as perennial gardens, improving your home’s entry and hardscape exterior additions benefit from outdoor lighting too.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Rhode Island LED path lightYou may be asking how much am I looking at in terms of the investment in professional outdoor lighting? The answer is not an easy dollar amount, or even range, as professionally designed and installed lighting differs for each property, and is influenced by the individual needs of each client. Without getting too technical, The Landscaping Network explored the subject of landscape lighting in detail in a recent article titled “How Much Does Landscape Lighting Cost?”“Quality contractors use professional quality fixtures that are all metal in copper, bronze, aluminum and steel featuring powder coated colors or unique finishes. These high quality light fixtures last far longer and cost substantially more due to their  warranty. A general rule of thumb for a preliminary estimate of your future lighting is to allow about $325 per fixture to cover product and installation.” There are factors that can greatly influence the cost of a professional lighting system. These include a new system over one that is converted, or retrofitted; soil conditions; unusually long runs of wire for larger properties and remote operation among other factors.

From a budgetary standpoint, other exterior home improvement project can cost much more than professional outdoor lighting. Take for instance a hardscape patio addition; depending on the size and type of materials you choose, stamped and colored concrete patios can cost twenty dollars per square foot. According to The Landscaping Network, pavers can run on average up to $25 per square foot, and flagstone $30. According to these estimates, an average 12 x 12 patio (144 sq. ft) can add up quickly! Keep in mind, too, that to enjoy your outdoor addition in the evening most homeowners still opt to install outdoor patio lighting!

How outdoor lighting is helping Nashville homeowners add design, and curb appeal, to their home

Belle Meade Blvd. outdoor lighting by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville

Belle Meade Blvd. outdoor lighting by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville.

This past weekend marked not only the arrival of August, but also the inaugural arrival of National Curb Appeal month. This new, annual event is dedicated to helping homeowners focus on ways to add value and design appeal to their home’s exterior. One of the best ways to add loads of curb appeal to your home, and landscape, is through the addition of outdoor lighting. Look through the pages of any upscale home or garden magazine and outdoor lighting takes center stage. You may think that creating that same type of nighttime magic, and elegance at your home is only a dream. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville has opened up a world of possibilities to homeowners with our professional outdoor lighting designs enabling you to not only daydream about outdoor lighting at your home, but make that vision a reality too!

Recently, our friends at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta  filmed the transformation of one of their client’s properties taking it from beautiful by day to pure enchantment at night. These videos serve as a perfect example of how Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville can transform your property too. It all begins with our consultation, take a look…

The Idea and Inspiration: When most people think of lighting the outside of their homes, they usually just consider safety and security. Important considerations, however, landscape lighting can be incorporated into an overall landscape plan that also adds to the overall beauty of your property. The lighting of steps, paths and walkways will make the grounds of your property safer; the lighting of the home façade, trees, and outdoor living spaces will add significantly to the aesthetics and make the home more inviting.  And there is the obvious benefit of added security by eliminating dark areas of the yard.

Free Design Consultation and Demonstration: Most people don’t realize this until we add lighting, but the backyard is a whole new room that they haven’t explored fully. You can have the option of going  beyond that light bulb at the doorway and create a storybook setting at your house too. Good lighting can bring magical qualities to any setting. You can rediscover the perimeter of your property, make it fun to entertain friends and family at night again and highlight points of interest, such as sculptures, fountains or even trees within your yard. Take a look at this  “preview”of  how the addition of outdoor lighting can enhance our property  as we reveal what is involved in a  nighttime demonstration …

The Installation: Once you have experienced the magic of a nighttime demonstration, here is an  in-depth look at our quality installation process…

The Outdoor Lighting Perspectives Reveal: Here in Nashville, March through September is some of the best times to enjoy outdoor living. With the addition of outdoor lighting, your landscape and outdoor living spaces are instantly transformed into usable space.Take a look at the big reveal of this transformation and imagine you and your family in the starring role…

A recent outdoor living survey confirms what Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville already knew!

Outdoor lighting plays a major role in the success of landscape architecture.

Outdoor lighting plays a major role in the success of landscape architecture.

A survey conducted by the American Society of Landscape Architects reveals the hottest outdoor living trends for 2014, and it is no surprise to us that outdoor lighting was at the top!  The data compiled reveals “consumer demand remains strong for attractively designed residential landscapes that are perfect for entertaining and relaxing. The survey also shows continuing popularity for both sustainable and low-maintenance design.” All of these findings are “spot-on” as they closely mimic the trends we are seeing here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville. Homeowners are putting more effort into their landscape than ever before, including landscape lighting. In addition, they are also integrating outdoor lighting into the outdoor spaces they utilize for entertainment, recreation, family time and relaxation purposes. With low-maintenance and sustainability in mind, LED outdoor lighting makes up more than half of the residential, and commercial, installations we do.

We offer nighttime demonstrations in order to determine the areas of your property that would benefit the most from lighting.

Why, you may ask, has lighting become such an integral part of outdoor living? The answer is simple; outdoor lighting extends the safety, security, comfort, beauty and function of your outdoors in the evening. Outdoor lighting makes it possible to live the way you and your family want to live outdoors with no limitations on enjoyment! Outdoor lighting is now within the grasp of every homeowner. Where once upon a time, homeowners had to “guess” at where and how outdoor lighting could enhance their home and landscape, we offer nighttime demonstrations in order to determine the areas of your property that would benefit the most from lighting. Here are just a few examples of the impact outdoor lighting can have…

  • Outdoor lighting that is sustainable and low-maintenance

We offer our clients a way to invest in tomorrow through the use of “green” outdoor lighting technologies such as LED.

LED lighting is energy-efficient, making them more economical to operate than traditional outdoor lighting. LED lighting also leaves less of an impact on the environment than other genres of outdoor lighting.  It can save a homeowner thousands in energy costs over the LED’s lifetime. In addition, since they contain no glass components, they are not vulnerable to vibration or breakage like conventional bulbs and make the perfect lighting for outdoor applications. LED lights are free of toxic chemicals. Most conventional fluorescent bulbs contain a multitude of materials such as mercury that are dangerous for the environment and make disposal dangerous. Since they contain no toxic materials and are 100% recyclable, they will help you reduce your carbon footprint by up to a third. LED is safer in many regards too because it generates light from cool burning technology, and it uses less wire to install properly. Our LED outdoor lighting is also longer lasting and requires less frequent replacement and maintenance making their operation seem effortless!

  • Outdoor lighting for residential landscapes that are perfect for entertaining and relaxing

Landscape lighting is one of the best investments a homeowner can make to enhance the beauty and function of their landscape.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville  embraces both classic and emerging outdoor lighting ideas and new ways to introduce not only illumination into an area, but also as a way to convey a feeling of a mood within a space. Landscape lighting is one of the best investments a homeowner can make to enhance the beauty and function of their landscape.

There are four (4) main benefits to adding landscape lighting to your property. These are beauty and curb appeal, safety, security and the way it adds value to your home. While the aesthetic benefits of landscape lighting are an inevitable plus, the added benefit of making your home safer and more secure is a driving force for installing landscape lighting for many homeowners. There are many different types of landscape lighting to choose from including innovative and versatile permanent festival lighting that adds a touch of whimsy and romance to any landscape!

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville offers some ideas on basking in the glory of Nashville in springtime!

Backyards can easily become your personal sanctuary with custom designed outdoor lighting.

Backyards can easily become your personal sanctuary with custom designed outdoor lighting

Spring has finally arrived and I can’t think of a better place to live and work than Nashville come springtime! As warmer weather arrives there is much to do and see. Sure, spring cleaning and sprucing up around the house and yard is probably on the top of your “to do” list, but enjoying the arrival of the outdoor living season with family and friends can still take center stage! With this in mind, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville has put together a list of ideas to get you out of the house and enjoying everything our fine city, and the season, has to offer —

  • Ideas for getting out and about in Nashville this spring:

Nashville's music rowEnjoy a night, or day, out on the town — Music City celebrates the month of April with Awesome April, a musical tribute to the city which promises a major event each weekend. Some of the festivities include the East Nashville Beer Festival that takes place in East Park, and the Rites of Spring Music Festival held at Vanderbilt University.

backyard movie night in NashvilleTake in a movie — Nothing is more fun than a night at the movies. With a little ingenuity and a few bed sheets, you can transform a spot in your backyard into an outdoor movie theatre. Many places also rent out all the equipment needed to host an outdoor screening, these include screens, and projectors but you can also use a LCD or PLP projector. All you need to add to make the evening Oscar-worthy are comfy quilts as seating, and lots of yummy popcorn. You can add even more ambiance and make snack trips back into the home easier by using outdoor lighting too.
If the great outdoors isn’t your cup of tea as a way of enjoying a night at the movies, The Nashville Film Festival is taking place in Music City April 17-26.  This annual event offers eight days filled with film screenings, industry panels, music showcases, parties receptions, and workshops. The event is one of the longest-running film festivals in the country, and is celebrating its 45th year!

Take me out to the ball game“Take me out to the ballgame” – – Spring is one of the best times to enjoy the great all-American pastime. Getting out of the house and enjoying some hands-on action on the baseball field, or on the court, is a great way to relish in quality time with your family and Mother Nature. Whether you enjoy getting in the game, or prefer watching as a spectator, baseball, soccer and basketball are fun from any angle. From being a sideline cheerleader for your child’s Saturday morning little league game, to attending  the 2014 NCAA Women’s Final Four taking place in Music City on April 8th — game on!

DayliliesStop and smell the roses — With today’s busy lifestyle, sometimes the greatest enjoyment comes from just taking time to relax and spend time in your own backyard. One of the greatest gifts of all is springtime, it is a time of renewal and beauty and a season that has a  new story to tell with each passing day. Why not bask in the magic of your changing landscape as buds change from blooms into new leaves, or spend an afternoon planting flowers to enhance your already evolving spring landscape?  A hike through the woods, a local park or even planning a trip to Cheekwood’s Botanical Gardens is a great way to witness the sights and sounds of springtime in Nashville first-hand.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is making the evening landscape more welcoming for man’s best friend

Rocky close up

Our own “Rocky” the lightning dog on the way to office.

Outdoor lighting provides an endless plethora of benefits to homeowners. These benefits encompass enhancing the beauty and curb appeal of the home and landscape while promoting a safer more secure home. Did you ever think about the ways outdoor lighting enhances the time our furry friends spend outdoors too? For most of us, our dog is considered a member of the family– not just man’s best friend, but everyone’s best friend — with that in mind, outdoor lighting can make those evening trips outdoors safer and more enjoyable for both you and your pet.

If you are a dog owner there is no escaping the inevitable need for evening walks. For some pet parents, taking a stroll after dark seems easy, but if you live in a secluded area with limited lighting or lots of traffic, this may be a source of trepidation. For homeowners who have a fenced  backyard, or designated area of their landscape to turn their dog out into instead of walking their dog, a dark backyard is still a source for concern for the safety of your pet. This can be even more of a concern in rural areas where wildlife frequents your property. The addition of outdoor lighting such as path, sidewalk and various landscape lighting can aid in making evening visits outdoors more enjoyable and safer for both you and your pet. Outdoor lighting will allow you to return from evening walks into a well-lit environment allowing for relaxed, safer entry back into the home. For pets that have specified areas within your landscape, outdoor lighting will make the time they spend outdoors in the evening safer because of the extended visibility it offers both you and your pet, also giving you peace of mind.

Nashville landscape lighting and path lighting

Path and landscape lighting aids in more secure travel when venturing outdoors in the evening with your pet.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville specializes in outdoor lighting designed to enhance the lifestyle of every member of the family, including our four-legged family. From landscape and architectural lighting to make accessing the backyard a relaxed experience for you and your pet, to path and sidewalk lighting allowing well-lit passage on the way to and from your evening walks. We take your comfort and safety seriously.

We have put together an assortment of great tips sure to put a little spring in your step and ensure that your evening strolls outside of your property with your dog are a ritual you both look forward to :

  • Bring a flashlight — Once you leave the security of your well-lit landscape to come home to make sure you have a dependable source of illumination for you and your pet while on the go. Portable flashlights are great, as are other sources of illumination, like headlights and lanterns. Remember you should always leave your house with a device that will help you observe the paths and roads ahead. Some of the newest pet-friendly sources of illumination include blinking LED lights,  light sticks or illuminated dog collars, all of which can be a great way to maintain visibility for both you and your dog!
  • Bring your cell phone — Before you throw on your jacket and fasten a leash to your dog’s collar, be sure you have your cell phone on hand. According to Dogster.com, this is also a great way to maintain a sense of time while you’re outside and  reach out to others in case an emergency occurs.

  • Make you and your pet easy for others to see with reflective gear — Wear reflective gear to aid in making you and your dog more visible to people driving. This includes walking on a sidewalk in a gated community or while near a busy intersection, it’s important that others are able to see both you and your pet. There’s a variety of reflective gear that will make it easier for those passing by to spot you, including  reflective shirts, full body gear, illuminating collars and even leashes.
  • Enjoy the moment — Leave distractions at home and enjoying this time to bond with your pet. While you may be tempted to plug-in your earbuds as you head out with your dog, this will inevitably distract you. Instead, try to be as observant as possible while you and your pooch enjoy the fresh air and time together outside.

Please contact Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville today to learn more about all the ways the addition of outdoor lighting can enhance the lifestyle of the whole family and increase the enjoyment of the time you spend outdoors together! (615) 373 – 0638, email: olpnashville@outdoorlights.com
