Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville Has Gone to the Dogs—and Tails are Wagging with Delight!

Nashville dog park lighting in Brentwood TNDog parks are becoming more popular every year, especially in metro areas such as Nashville where dog owners don’t have large yards. Dog owners depend on these areas to ensure their pups get the exercise they need. Many dog parents even seek out properties near dog parks as a prerequisite when purchasing a home. One important element for dog parks, in the evening, is proper lighting. Without it, the park is uninviting and could be considered unsafe at night. Recently, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville had the opportunity to help add necessary lighting to a Brentwood, TN dog park, Tapestry Dog Park.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives has been a trusted source for commercial outdoor lighting in the Nashville area including Brentwood, for over 30 years. We bring efficient lighting solutions to outdoor spaces for convenience, safety, security and aesthetics. We have had the pleasure of working on a variety of commercial outdoor lighting applications. We were thrilled to provide Tapestry Dog Park a customized lighting design and installation, allowing local residents to walk their dogs even after the sun goes down.

OLP Nashville Uses Innovative Commercial Outdoor Lighting

When working on this project, we discussed a variety of commercial outdoor lighting options. Based on the needs of the space and the client’s requirements, we recommended solar lighting. As a cost-effective, environmentally-friendly option, our client was very receptive to installing this type of solution.

Nashville Dog Park Outdoor Lighting

These solar lighting applications not only incur zero energy cost but also have other innovative qualities. These tall posts have an extended fixture, which charges during the day and illuminates in the dark.

These lights also sense motion and become brighter as dogs and their walkers approach them. Because a dog park has sporadic visitors after dark, solar lighting with sensors was an ideal fit for this application.

Even our own lighting canine consultant "Rocky" approves the installation at Tapestry Dog Park!

Nashville Tree Lighting at the Country Music Hall of Fame

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville recently installed commercial outdoor lighting along the tree-lined entrance to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This venue is rich in music history as it is often referred to as the Smithsonian of country music.

2017 Tree Lighting at the Country Music Hall of Fame

With a core goal of collecting, preserving, and interpreting the evolving history and traditions of country music, the Country Music Hall of Fame teaches audiences about the past and continued importance of county music.

The venue recently unveiled a magnificent expansion, doubling its size to 350,000 sq. feet of galleries, classrooms, retail areas, storage and special event space. The building is situated in the heart of Music City’s epicenter close to the honky-tonks of Broadway and across the street from Bridgestone Arena.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is truly honored to have been asked to install the tree lighting along the entrance to this amazing venue! We used a technique called tree wrapping to add elegance and beauty to this already impressive locale. Though this genre of lighting may appear to be solely for the holidays, the venue intends to keep the lights year round. Such is the trend to use permanent tree lighting in many commercial buildings and even in residential backyard settings.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville would like to invite you to witness this the magic of the Christmas tree at the State Capitol. This is our 6th season lighting the tree and we remain honored to have been chosen for the task this year.

This year’s tree is a 35-foot Norway Spruce donated by the Mazzo family of Burns, TN. The tree weighed in at over at over 4,500 pounds and had to be removed from the Mazzo’s property by a crane.

This Christmas treasure now commands attention as it sits majestically at the State Capitol donned in classic white a lights, flashers and topped off with a glorious star. All are welcome to visit this holiday season — here is a sneak preview from our YouTube channel:

Have you ever wondered how DST began?

DST ends tomorrow at 2AM.

DST ends tomorrow at 2AM.

Nashville and most of the United States have enjoyed an hour of extra daylight since this past spring. On November 5th, however, that will come to an end, as Daylight Savings Time (DST) officially ends for this year. The annual ritual of setting our clocks forward in the spring, and back again come fall, is something many of us take for granted but have you ever wondered how DST began?

The History of DST

Benjamin Franklin takes the credit for the idea of DST. Yes, this is the same Ben Franklin pictured on our $100 bill and who also invented the lightning rod and bifocal glasses among creating some of the most successful and popular inventions of the modern world.

Benjamin Franklin came up with concept of DSTHis idea for coming up with the idea to reset clocks in the summer months was a way to conserve energy. By moving clocks forward, people could take advantage of the extra evening daylight rather than wasting energy on lighting. At the time, Franklin was serving as ambassador to Paris and wrote a letter to the Journal of Paris in 1784, rejoicing at his discovery that the sun provides light as soon as it rises.

The practice of DST was not put to use until more than a century later when Germany began using the idea in 1916 as a way to conserve fuel during WWI. The rest of Europe quickly followed suit with the practice and in 1918 the US adopted the concept. Although President Wilson wanted to keep DST after the war ended, its practice was not embraced by all. Farmers objected to the practice citing that they would lose an hour of light in the morning. Since the US was mostly rural during this era, the practice stagnated. It was not until the next war (WWII), that the practice of DST was re-established. Following the end of WWII, states and towns were given the choice of whether to observe DST — which led to chaos.

To curb the chaos, Congress enacted the Uniform Time Act in 1966. This meant protocol must be followed in which daylight saving time would begin on the first Sunday of April and end on the last Sunday of October. Then, in 2007, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 went into effect, expanding the length of daylight saving time to the present timing.

Why DST is Observed Today

Less than 40% of countries throughout the world observe DST. Most of the United States and Canada observe DST on the same dates. But there are exceptions. Hawaii and Arizona are the two states that don’t observe daylight saving time, though Navajo Nation, in northeastern Arizona, does follow DST, according to NASA.

LED lights are long lasting, energy efficient and among the safest lights on the market today for outdoor lighting.

LED lights are energy efficient, long-lasting and more sustainable than other lighting genres.

The primary reason for the practice of DST has long been energy savings. Brighter evenings are said to save on lighting. However, as lighting has become super efficient in recent years, it has become a smaller element of energy consumption than it was just a few decades ago. The practice of moving an hour of sunlight from the early morning, when many would sleep through it, to the evening, when you could most likely do more with the light, and vice versa, opens up a doorway of possibilities for us to get things done. Whether it is work or school related, we have grown accustomed to having an extra hour of morning light illuminating our travel to work or school in the fall and winter months. On the opposite side of the coin, we also enjoy an extra hour of afternoon light in the spring and summer to partake in outdoor living activities.

Franklin TN LED residential outdoor lighting

With DST in mind, How much time will you spend this evening programming your outdoor lighting for daylight savings time? There will be multiple devices throughout your home and landscape that will require adjustment to correspond with the time and light change. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville can make sure your outdoor lighting timer isn’t one of them.

Our timers use LCA technology that automatically adjusts to facilitate the change for daylight savings time and provides automation that you will enjoy every day. It simplifies your outdoor lighting by giving you effortless control of your home’s indoor and outdoor lighting and other powered features. Our smart timer can do more than simply turn on selected lights at dusk. It can also control your indoor and outdoor electric outlets.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is in a New Location!

After many happy years at our Houston Street location, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville has moved! Just this week, we settled into Nashville outdoor lighting’s new home at 2215 Dunn Ave., Suite B in Nashville.

New OLP Nashville Building

Almost done!

We are still pouring lots of elbow grease and love into making the new spot our own, as you can see through the photos.

As many of you may already know, we were originally called “Lightscapes” and were operating under that name from 1987 until 1999. The birth of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives can be traced back to us, as we were a driving force in the way outdoor lighting was brought to market. By creating a turnkey landscape lighting business which featured the advent of the “night-time demonstration”, we brought the concept of all-inclusive outdoor lighting out of the shadows, away from being “avant garde” and into the mainstream.

We have a dedicated service crew that service, adjust, and consult with all of our current clients and nonclient systems daily. Here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we support our local teams. Whether it is the Titans or our numerous local college teams, our heart is in Tennessee. Our love for the Nashville Predators runs deep as they reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in the franchise’s history. The Preds and their fans are the talk of the sports world and beyond, evidenced by recent articles in The New York Times, Sports Illustrated and USA Today, just to name a few.

Now that the Preds have defeated the mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the music city is now being referred to as “Smashville” as they head to the finals. One more challenge stands between the Predators and their first championship. They must either unseat the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins or derail the upstart Ottawa Senators. The winner of that Eastern Conference series, which could be determined as soon as Tuesday if the Penguins win Game 6, will host the Predators in Game 1 on Monday.

If you look closely, your will see our own Bob Lyons Jr., helping to hold the sign at a recent Preds. game.

The excitement in Nashville is palpable as we prepare for Monday nights game — Memorial Day, a fitting way to add to the holiday weekend ahead. The Tennessean posted the most recent schedule of the finals, it is as follows:

Outdoor lighting serves as a beneficial addition to outdoor spaces such as decks, patios and even children’s play areas such as a treehouse. Through illumination, you are able to increase the safety of a space and in turn, increase the time you can spend enjoying your outdoors. Our Nashville outdoor lighting portfolio is loaded with inspiration for lighting for outdoor living spaces.

Nashville TN festival outdoor lighting

When it comes to improving the look and feel of your Nashville landscape — lighting is the answer. From formal gardens, perennial beds, or a complete landscape overhaul, we can add beauty to your investment.

Nashville Landscape Lighting

Nashville landscape and water feature lighting.

If you are planning landscape or outdoor living space additions or have a property lacking outdoor lighting, we can design a system from scratch and lay everything out. It’s always best to include your outdoor lighting architect in your home-build or landscape renovation projects upfront so that we can work in tandem with your contractor to take advantage of the construction phase. Being proactive can save you money and hassle later when it comes time to determine where power and fixtures need to be if you plan in advance.

Even if you don’t plan on adding outdoor lighting right away, we can install sleeves before your hardscapes and other structures are poured or built. Sleeves allow wiring to easily be passed through at any time instead of having to dig under existing hardscape like concrete. This proactive approach minimizes on mess and causes less disruption of the landscape. It also helps in case you have an issue with wiring later on as it can be quickly serviced or replaced through the same sleeve.

LandscapeLighting

Of course, we are always happy to work around your existing outdoor structures and landscaping. We will come in and evaluate your property and work around existing structures wherever possible–so don’t fret if you forgot to include landscape lighting in your initial plans.
