Make your outdoor living spaces safer this season with Nashville deck and patio lighting.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville deck lighting

Deck lighting will enhance the safety and function of your deck.

Deck and patio lighting brings your backyard to life after the sun goes down while improving outdoor safety. With May being  the North American Deck and Railing Association’s Deck Safety Month, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville would like to share with you ways lighting can increase the function, style and safety of your deck or other outdoor living space.

Outdoor lighting, specifically deck and patio lighting, is especially helpful when installed by stairs risers, exits and handrails. We also use deck lighting to create ambiance within areas that are being used in the evening. For example, pillar lights help define perimeters and look amazing when mounted directly onto brick and wood columns.

Professional deck lighting creates a custom look for your outdoor living space with the dramatic play of light and shadows providing the right ambiance for your outdoor events and gatherings. This proper lighting is achieved by using a combination of lighting styles to accommodate different purposes. The size of the area to illuminate along with its function help to determine the types and number of lights you need for your deck lighting. Spot lights can be used in task areas, such as outdoor kitchens, while accent lighting creates a soft, inviting illumination in seating areas. Recessed lighting incorporated into steps and lights placed around walkways and doorways enhance safety.

A well-lit deck makes your outdoor living experience safer.

Increased visibility enhances safety and is attained with the right amount of light for the use of the space without distraction. Low-voltage lighting is best for deck lighting. It illuminates your custom deck without being overpowering or making it difficult to enjoy the night sky. This type of lighting will also prevent you from annoying your neighbors with intrusive exterior lighting.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives deck and patio lighting

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives deck and patio lighting.

When creating an outdoor lighting system, we focus on the effect, not the fixture. While the effect of our lighting design will increase the curb appeal of your home, our exclusive high quality fixtures add style and are a cut above the rest. Our corrosion-proof outdoor light fixtures, wires and lamps can weather the toughest outdoor conditions. You’ll love the way the solid copper and brass takes on a rich patina over time, blending beautifully into your landscape. With a long life expectancy and a consistent light output, we’re so confident of our equipment’s performance and durability that we offer unmatched warranty coverage.

Adding outdoor lighting to your deck space will extend function and style while increasing safety when using your outdoor spaces in the evening. Memorial Day kicks off the summer season in just a few short weeks — have your outdoor spaces such as decks, patios, and pools ready for the occasion! With deck lighting sundown will no longer dictate the end of your outdoor living enjoyment!

Proper Nashville Outdoor Lighting Can Prevent and Reduce Winter Accidents on Dark, Slippery Surfaces.

Icy surfaces can create danger around your Nashville home

Icy surfaces can create danger around your Nashville home.

In recent weeks much of the country has seen more than its fair share of wintry weather. From snow, ice and sleet to wind gusts that chill to the bone meaning that cold-than-normal winter the Old Farmer’s Almanac predicted has come to fruition! Winter weather can make any type of travel dangerous, whether it is traveling by car to the grocery, or venturing from your home to your yard, freezing conditions can transform a wet surface into an accident waiting to happening very quickly. Icy steps, sidewalks, driveways and paths can turn a trip to the mailbox into a trip to the emergency room, especially when the area is dark!

Darkness doubles the chances of an accident on slick outdoor surfaces

Darkness doubles the chances of an accident on slick outdoor surfaces.

Darkness doubles the chances of an accident on slick outdoor surfaces because you cannot visually determine their condition and act. The addition of outdoor lighting around areas of frequent travel will help reduce the chances of getting hurt and will improve the overall safety in, and around, your home during every season.

  • Outdoor stair lighting Nashville

Lighting along these steps is not only beautiful but enhances safety too!

Lighting stairways for safety: Stairs need to be made clearly visible to prevent trips or falls. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville focuses on two distinct areas when we add lighting to the stairs around your home. This includes installing lighting on any railing, and installing lighting on the vertical area of the step itself. Both of these methods will help you and your family safely navigate stairs through increased visibility.

  • Franklin TN LED residential outdoor lighting

Notice how this Franklin, TN, home’s entry is clearly visible?

Lighting paths for safety: Increasing visibility along paths and sidewalks will allow safe navigation by raising awareness of ice, snow or any object that may be present. This includes limbs or debris that can blow onto paths during spring and summer storms posing a safety hazard.

  • Lighting your home’s entrances for safety: Poorly lit entrance points into your home can post a safety hazard. The entrance itself should be clearly visible in addition to the stairs and path that lead to your door.
  • Nashville outdoor lighting in the snow

Nashville outdoor lighting in the snow.

Lighting the landscape for safety: A well-lit landscape enables you to “see” areas that may require special attention during wintry weather. Landscape lighting illuminates the areas around your home to enable you to stay a well-informed homeowner or the conditions around your property.

  • Lighting timers or lighting control automation can help further safety:  Adding timers or lighting control automation will ensure the lights are on when you need them most, every evening, in every season!

Guess who made the list as one of Huffington Post’s most over-the-top Christmas trees of 2014?

Guess who made the list as one of the most over-the-top Christmas trees of 2014? We did! According to the Huffington Post, the Tennessee capitol tree we were honored to decorate and light this year, located in downtown Nashville, made the list.

Here is the image and caption shown in the 12/06/2014 Huffington Post article:

Christmas tree at the capital Nashville TN by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville

A man looks over the Capitol Christmas tree after it was lit Monday, Dec. 1, 2014, in Nashville, Tenn.

The picture is truly breathtaking isn’t it? As the reflection of the majestic tree is captured in the damp tiles that surround the capitol, it is a testament to the state of Tennessee in its finest moment.

The trees we decorated and lit over the past two holiday seasons, (2012 & 2013), were stunning, however this year’s tree may have outshined them all! This year’s tree is a 27-foot-tall Norway spruce donated by Ed Mascolo of Nashville. The tree was decorated in red, silver and blue with Tennessee flags. It features an oversized tree topper bow, which was handmade in the state and there are more than 3,000 LED lights on the tree.

Admittedly, we are very proud to make the list as our tree is definitely in good company alongside the upside-down tree in Paris”, the capitol Christmas tree at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, and many other amazing trees from around the world that have captured the imagination this year!

If you would like to spark that same childlike wonder with your holiday lighting display, it is never too soon to begin thinking about next year’s Christmas lighting — on 364 days left and it will be here before you can blink!
