At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we love our Preds!

Here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we support our local teams. Whether it is the Titans or our numerous local college teams, our heart is in Tennessee. Our love for the Nashville Predators runs deep as they reach the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in the franchise’s history. The Preds and their fans are the talk of the sports world and beyond, evidenced by recent articles in The New York Times, Sports Illustrated and USA Today, just to name a few.

Now that the Preds have defeated the mighty Ducks of Anaheim, the music city is now being referred to as “Smashville” as they head to the finals. One more challenge stands between the Predators and their first championship. They must either unseat the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins or derail the upstart Ottawa Senators. The winner of that Eastern Conference series, which could be determined as soon as Tuesday if the Penguins win Game 6, will host the Predators in Game 1 on Monday.

If you look closely, your will see our own Bob Lyons Jr., helping to hold the sign at a recent Preds. game.

The excitement in Nashville is palpable as we prepare for Monday nights game — Memorial Day, a fitting way to add to the holiday weekend ahead. The Tennessean posted the most recent schedule of the finals, it is as follows:

May 29: Game 1 at Pittsburgh/Ottawa (NBC)

May 31: Game 2 at Pittsburgh/Ottawa (NBC SN)

June 3: Game 3 at Nashville (NBC SN)

June 5: Game 4 at Nashville (NBC)

x — June 8: Game 5 at Pittsburgh/Ottawa (NBC)

x — June 11: Game 6 at Nashville (NBC)

x — June 14: Game 7 at Pittsburgh/Ottawa (NBC)

x — if necessary

The entire team at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is rooting for the Preds. Rest assured, when it comes to local team dedication and support, we have our pucks (and our hearts) on the ice with you!

Memphis BBQ Contest Showcases Nationwide Talent and Gets Us Thinking about Illuminating Your Outdoor Kitchen and Grill Area for Summer

Nashville SkylineBeing part of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is something we absolutely love to do as a team. We enjoy meeting clients, being creative with lighting and we are always up to a challenge when it comes to making things work in the most unique situations to give our customers exactly what they want. We also love to support Nashville’s local community events and give back whenever we can.

Springtime means barbecue time! We’ve participated in many fun events such as the Memphis In May BBQ competition with the team at Peg Leg Porkers, which brings in the county’s best BBQ teams for a cook off while raising awareness that provides education, international and economic program opportunities for the people of Memphis. Unfortunately, we couldn’t make it this year, but we wanted to tip our hat to the Peg Leg Porkers team for their stellar effort this year.

The Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is quite a big deal for those of us with our hearts deep in BBQ, and it’s no different than ranking in a golf major or even the Kentucky Derby. They take barbeque seriously in the Memphis area, so it’s no surprise its home to this event. Any team taking the top three slots garners some pretty significant bragging rights throughout the entire USA and the BBQ world. Judging is serious business and determining the final winner in various categories is quite the heart-stopper.

Peg Leg Porker

To taste some fabulous BBQ in Nashville, definitely drop by Peg Leg Porker in the Gulch for some certified world-class barbecue and to congratulate the team.

Nashville’s own  Peg Leg Porker founder and owner, Carey Bringle, is a veteran of the Memphis in May contestant, but has never ended up in one of the coveted top-3 finalist spots. But this year was different as Bringle fielded two teams, one in his traditional category of Pork Shoulder and a second smaller team competing in Whole Hog. A brand-new competition trailer hauled everything they needed to compete, including one of his new line of smokers that he is selling, specifically the BMF-200. Fantastically, they came in third place and faced some stiff competition!

Task lighting over an outdoor kitchen makes food preparation effortless!

Task lighting within an outdoor kitchen makes food preparation effortless!

If you live in Music City and you want to get your own BBQ groove going, we can add real value to your backyard grilling and smoking experience thanks to task lighting that makes the job easy no matter what time you are flipping meat. Your outdoor kitchen and deck/patio area will not only look great, but it will work hard for you to ensure you know exactly when the brisket is done and ready to eat. Proper visibility to cook, serve and dine is an important part of any outdoor barbeque zone, so why not let Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville help you get it summer ready so you can show off your grilling skills to family and friends.

Get Out and Enjoy Downtown and Home Town Fun in Nashville with Family this 4th of July Weekend!

Happy Independence Day from Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville!

Happy Independence Day from Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville!

Here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives, we are getting ready to celebrate Independence Day with our families, and it’s a time when we think about how lucky we are to live in a country where freedom, opportunity and a deep sense of patriotism are abundant. It’s a great day to gather up the kids for some family fun, relaxation, good food and, of course, music. We know there’s truly no place like Nashville for a true American 4th of July family experience, and if you are stumped for ideas on what to do on the 4th, here’s four ideas for you to try on for size:

Downtown Nashville’s Music City: Let Freedom Sing! celebration is going to be of epic proportions. Being a city that knows how to entertain in huge fashion, the fireworks display this year is said to be the largest and longest in America (even bigger than the Macy’s one in New York City!!) and will be synchronized to live music performed by the Nashville Symphony. The big boom goes off at 9:30 PM downtown along Riverfront Park, Public Square and Cumberland Park and is completely free to the public.

Events downtown start as early as 12 noon with local and national bands playing throughout the afternoon, and a free and kid-friendly Family Fun Zone on 5th Avenue and Broadway features inflatables, games and music for kiddos. At 6:30 PM, country music sweetheart Martina McBride will kick off a special performance along with opening act Mikki Ekko at the Jack Daniels Main Stage located at 1st Avenue and Broadway.

Nashville fun family for July 4thIf mega sized events aren’t your thing and you prefer something a little more old-fashioned, then get yourself a true taste of how America celebrates in a small community by visiting Whitland Avenue for their annual Fourth of July parade that kicks off at 11 AM. The gorgeous antique homes are dressed up in red, white and blue grandeur, and the energy rivals that of the Christmas season. This event is all about the children in our community, and they will happily ride their bicycles down the parade route waving a big ol’ flag and wearing a megawatt smile. We are sure it’s something they will remember when they grow up and they pull their own children down the same street in a red wagon festooned with festive bunting. Family pets get in on the act too, wearing all sorts of charming and celebratory outfits. Then the good people of Whitland have a fantastic picnic, so be sure to bring a blanket and some food. This is down home fun at its best, and our favorite part is the pie and dessert contest. Yum!

Nashville SkylineSince July 4th happens to fall on the first Saturday of the month, you can also visit the local art galleries around Nashville completely free to check out their exhibits on the First Saturday Art Crawl that happens every month. Over 20 galleries are part of this event covering art across all styles and genres.

Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum is featuring their Human Landscape exhibit at the moment, so go stroll through the 55-acre estate where 9 massively scaled outdoor sculptures, such a human heads, are done with a truly unique sense of inventiveness.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville and Pork Leg Porkers, a winning combination

travel-and-leisure-best-bbqAs you will recall in our August 18, 2014 article, There’s more to do in Music City than just music — much more!, Nashville was voted #1, the best American city for barbecues in 2014 by Travel & Leisure magazine for being home to a “greatest-hits” collection of barbecue styles. To continue with the best barbecue stewardship, on May 14-16 of this year, as it does every year, the Memphis in May International Festival hosted the 47th Annual World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, and our own Bob Lyons Jr. had the privilege of joining the Peg Leg Porkers competitive BBQ cooking team.

World Championship BBq Cooking contest at Memphis in May 2015The Memphis in May International Festival promotes extensive education, international, and economic programs for Memphis, but it is most widely known as the promotional umbrella and organizer for the numerous annual events Memphis hosts each May. As the city’s largest “community entertainment happenings”, each is professionally and spectacularly executed, making events like the Beale Street Music Festival, the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and the Sunset Symphony some of Memphis’s can’t miss pleasures to attend with friends and family, all throughout the month of May.

Peg Leg Porker

Peg Leg Porker’s signature is a 16-ingredient medley of warm red spices — low salt, no sugar — that gets applied after the pork ribs emerge from the smoker. Based on chili and paprika, the finishing rub is intended to mirror the flavors of barbecue sauce. It is a strategy that showcases the smoky meat, without losing it under a sticky lacquer of caramelized mopping sauce. When the rib meat is as tender and juicy as Peg Leg Porker’s, clinging to the bone with just the right tenacity, there’s no need to overshadow it.”

As attendees of so many of these phenomenal events each year, it just didn’t seem like they could be any better. WRONG…multiply that feeling times 2 when you are an active part of the happenings!! Bob Lyons Jr. described his participation in the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest with Carey Bringle and the entire Peg Leg Porkers team as one of the most unforgettable times he’s ever had. That’s not too surprising, considering it’s the 26th time Carey, pitmaster and leader of the Peg Leg Porkers team, has personally competed (12th for Peg Leg team) and especially since he and his team are more commonly known as pitmaster pranksters with a reputation for thoroughly enjoying themselves at each event.

Every year, this World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest entertains visitors from all 50 states, as well as several foreign countries from around the world. This year Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville lent its expertise in the field of outdoor lighting by supplying a bit of “special event”/festival outdoor lighting for the occasion.

Once again “the largest barbecue-cooking contest in the world”, so titled by the Guinness Book of World Records in 1990, the Memphis in May Festival’s 47th Annual World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest was a huge success! We want to congratulate Carey Bringle, Bob Lyons Jr. and the entire Peg Leg Porkers team for participating. If you’d like to check out some of the prize-winning pork cooked with Carey’s own dry seasoning spice blend and Wet Sauce recipes, be sure to stop by his Peg Leg Porker restaurant conveniently located between the downtown community and the residential areas, in the Gulch section of Nashville, at 903 Gleaves St. Nashville, TN.

Make your outdoor living spaces safer this season with Nashville deck and patio lighting.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville deck lighting

Deck lighting will enhance the safety and function of your deck.

Deck and patio lighting brings your backyard to life after the sun goes down while improving outdoor safety. With May being  the North American Deck and Railing Association’s Deck Safety Month, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville would like to share with you ways lighting can increase the function, style and safety of your deck or other outdoor living space.

Outdoor lighting, specifically deck and patio lighting, is especially helpful when installed by stairs risers, exits and handrails. We also use deck lighting to create ambiance within areas that are being used in the evening. For example, pillar lights help define perimeters and look amazing when mounted directly onto brick and wood columns.

Professional deck lighting creates a custom look for your outdoor living space with the dramatic play of light and shadows providing the right ambiance for your outdoor events and gatherings. This proper lighting is achieved by using a combination of lighting styles to accommodate different purposes. The size of the area to illuminate along with its function help to determine the types and number of lights you need for your deck lighting. Spot lights can be used in task areas, such as outdoor kitchens, while accent lighting creates a soft, inviting illumination in seating areas. Recessed lighting incorporated into steps and lights placed around walkways and doorways enhance safety.

A well-lit deck makes your outdoor living experience safer.

Increased visibility enhances safety and is attained with the right amount of light for the use of the space without distraction. Low-voltage lighting is best for deck lighting. It illuminates your custom deck without being overpowering or making it difficult to enjoy the night sky. This type of lighting will also prevent you from annoying your neighbors with intrusive exterior lighting.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives deck and patio lighting

When creating an outdoor lighting system, we focus on the effect, not the fixture. While the effect of our lighting design will increase the curb appeal of your home, our exclusive high quality fixtures add style and are a cut above the rest. Our corrosion-proof outdoor light fixtures, wires and lamps can weather the toughest outdoor conditions. You’ll love the way the solid copper and brass takes on a rich patina over time, blending beautifully into your landscape. With a long life expectancy and a consistent light output, we’re so confident of our equipment’s performance and durability that we offer unmatched warranty coverage.

Adding outdoor lighting to your deck space will extend function and style while increasing safety when using your outdoor spaces in the evening. Memorial Day kicks off the summer season in just a few short weeks — have your outdoor spaces such as decks, patios, and pools ready for the occasion! With deck lighting sundown will no longer dictate the end of your outdoor living enjoyment!

Experience seasons of splendor in your Nashville landscape with outdoor lighting

Imagine enjoying season after season with outdoor lighting!

Imagine enjoying season after season with outdoor lighting!

Many people assume that outdoor lighting is just a luxury to enjoy during the warmer months, when actually nothing could be farther from the truth. Lighting gives homeowners, and business owners alike, the chance to enjoy the changing seasons in all their majesty.

Nashville Landscape Lighting Gazebo

This gazebo comes to life at night within the landscape with outdoor lighting

To everything there is a season:

One of the most memorable elements landscape lighting, tree lighting and even architectural lighting provide is a stage for the changing seasons. As your landscape changes, leaves change hues and blooms emerge, outdoor lighting can be there to illuminate each moment as it unfolds.

Lighting makes a huge impact as part of your landscape. Landscape lighting can be used to emphasize a perennial flower garden that changes with each colored bloom and bud, or a line of flowering trees that transform from hauntingly beautiful barren branches in the winter months to green to mounds of whimsical pink blooms from one season to the next. Even the smallest landscape ornamentals will change personalities from spring to fall. Although your outdoor lighting stays in the same place, the area it illuminates evolves, as does the scenery.

Nashville-led-landscape-lighting

Truly professional outdoor lighting will enhance your home, landscape and your lifestyle.

More than just a pretty face:

The benefits of outdoor lighting go well beyond beautification and aesthetic enhancement. Lighting also aids in providing a more safe and secure setting for you and your family to enjoy. This includes having a more secure area to enjoy outdoor activities and relax. Security lighting such as path lighting can even makes the trip to your front door more secure because you no longer have to muddle around at a dark entrance to find your keys or while dropping shopping bags! The addition of lighting will make ease, peace of mind and convenience as a way of life. Experts are also quick to point out that outdoor lighting reduces the chances of falling victim to crime because a well lit home, or business, is less likely to become the target of a break-in.

A closeup of one of our LED path lights.

Outdoor lighting for all seasons:

Although preference of LED over halogen outdoor lighting is really a matter of choice. A higher percentage of our clients opt to go with LED. It is true that LED is more energy-efficient, long-lasting and eco-friendly than traditional outdoor lighting systems; but did you also know LED is more durable? That’s right! LED lighting makes the perfect candidate for outdoor lighting because it holds up better to the harsh elements and the extreme hot and cold of seasonal changes. In additon, since LED is a UV free source of light it is less likely to attract nuisance insects. This means the amount of mosquitoes that are drawn into your deck, patio or oudoor living space by light are reduced making outdoor living more enjoyeable for everyone!
