Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville recently installed commercial outdoor lighting along the tree-lined entrance to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. This venue is rich in music history as it is often referred to as the Smithsonian of country music.

With a core goal of collecting, preserving, and interpreting the evolving history and traditions of country music, the Country Music Hall of Fame teaches audiences about the past and continued importance of county music.

The venue recently unveiled a magnificent expansion, doubling its size to 350,000 sq. feet of galleries, classrooms, retail areas, storage and special event space. The building is situated in the heart of Music City’s epicenter close to the honky-tonks of Broadway and across the street from Bridgestone Arena.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is truly honored to have been asked to install the tree lighting along the entrance to this amazing venue! We used a technique called tree wrapping to add elegance and beauty to this already impressive locale. Among the many memorable things the South is noted for, its glorious variety of native trees has to be at the top of the list. From the spanish moss that covers the Live oaks of the eerily beautiful streets of historic Georgia, tothe Bald Cypress trees that line the great Mississippi. Tennessee has a wide variety of native trees that are a pleasure to look at too, such as a plethora of Oaks, Maples, Dogwoods, Poplars and Birches. Many of the trees that thrive naturally in Tennessee our among the favorites used by homeowners as a foundation to their landscape. Along with the native specimens, a wide variety of ornamental trees can also be seen in the yards of Tennesseans.

We use a combination of up lighting to accentuate the height and presence of the tree, well lights, wide bulbs and even moonlighting in some cases to bring out the best features of the tree your lighting. With Japanese maples for instance the best light to use is the well light. Two fixtures placed at the canopy of the tree at 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock with 60 degree wide bulbs create a mystical look when the light filters through the leaves of these exotic trees.

Crepe Myrtles add interest to the landscape year round, and change season to season making them perfect for tree lighting.

Trees are one of the most important parts of a beautiful landscape. They offer shade, screening, create a focal point of interest and serve as a backdrop of inspiration to other landscaping and outdoor structures. One way to create a landscape that sizzles with beauty and visual interest is to entail the use of tree lighting into your outdoor lighting design. In the Nashville area trees are among many of our scenic treasures and we have become experts at helping homeowners decide the perfect specimen tree in their landscape as a candidate for lighting.

Our tree lighting formula can accentuate the height, width and canopy of the tree. What elements we include into lighting your individual conifer all depend on the tree itself. With spreading canopies, there is more room to play the light up and down through the limbs of the canopy itself. Bushier, thick limbed, columnar trees offer little room for enhancement through tree lighting.

Moonlighting is also a viable option in tree lighting that uses the upper branches of the tree to cast light into the lower branches to light a path, or other point of interest in correlation with the tree itself. The term “moonlighting” itself lends to thoughts of mystery and romance, and that is exactly the type of light moonlighting emits. A type of unforgettable light that uses depth to cast a glow full of ambiance and haunting beauty.

If you are wondering which trees you may have in your yard that would make perfect candidates for tree lighting, we have compiled a summary of some of the trees that we often see here in the Nashville area that look beautiful with the addition of outdoor tree lighting. Many varieties of Maples, Oaks , Ginkgo trees and ornamental cherry trees definitely fit the bill. Other good species include the Hackberry, Elms and Birch trees.
