It’s almost time to “spring forward” — is your outdoor lighting timer up to the task?

daylight savings time begins March 6th!

Daylight savings time begins March 6th!

Sunday, March 6th marks the official onset of Daylight Savings Time where it’s time to “spring forward” and move the clocks up one hour. At this point the days start to get longer and dawn comes earlier and the evenings remain brighter for longer time. Of course this also throws many outdoor lighting timers for a loop as most on older systems are manually changed. Most homeowners have to dig out their manuals and figure out which dials and buttons to press to update their timers and get it straight with the change in time. It’s pretty annoying isn’t it?

Our LCA lighting timer delivers on the promise of set it and forget it.

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we can help you either reset your existing timer OR we can install a newer technology-based timer that will accommodate for daylight changes on its very own! What a relief to not have to fiddle or worry about your timer anymore. Every new system we install has a timer so that our customers can freely customize how their lights go and off at any time of day or night based on their personal needs. The flexibility our timers provide gives you lots of options and also removes the burden of remembering when to turn your lights on or off. This facet naturally increases the safety and security at your home and grounds and adds lots of practicality, too. Our timers make it look like your home is lived in even if no one is there even if you are at work or on vacation. Would-be thieves will always know your house is lived in even if you aren’t there.

daylight savings timeCumbersome manual timers require that you remember to reset them as the days grow longer or shorter during the seasons. Our timers are controlled by Lighting Control Automation (LCA) that requires no additional support or demands from you since they automatically update themselves based on your time zone and available light. You can forget digging out the manual and trying to figure out how to program your timer every couple of months to accommodate the daylight changes in your area. Simply set your LCA timer to whatever your lifestyle needs are and then it does the rest. LCA timers even save you money because your lights are on only when you want them to be, so you aren’t paying a light bill for illumination during hours that it’s not necessary.

Control your lighting with your smartphone, network your lights!!!

Control your lighting with your smartphone, network your lights!!!

LCA timers can be as simple as you want and you never have to worry about them again; OR if you enjoy a high level of control with technical devices, you can really have fun setting your timer for an ultra-enhanced lighting mood. Aside from controlling when your lights go on and off, highly adaptable LCA’s can even be set to regulate how much light is put out by your outdoor landscape system.  You can start off at a lower power level earlier in the evening and then go to 100% power as the darker part of night comes. You can even control your indoor lights and even appliances with this same timer if that’s what you’d like to do. Best of all, you can do this and even make changes to your lighting all from a mobile device such as your smartphone or your computer no matter where in the world you are! Neat!

Daylight Savings Time on November 1st Creates Challenge for Average Landscape Timers. Go Automatic for Ease!

daylight savings time With daylight savings time less than a few months away on November 1st, you can expect your evenings to start to darken fairly early as the countdown to autumn begins. We advise our clients that right now is a good time to start to adjust their outdoor lighting to accommodate the need for earlier outdoor illumination so you can make sure that you and your family do not come home to a dark home, including the kids who may be rolling off the school bus in late afternoon.

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we install a timer on every one of our systems. Clients can choose to have their lights on from dusk to dawn or any configuration of hours they choose. The benefit that timers provide is that the homeowner doesn’t have to think about turning their outdoor lighting on or off and it provides safety and security around the property as well. The beauty of timers is that you can adjust them to how you live, your hours and make it appear like someone is always home.

Lighting Control Automation Timer Nashville lighting control

Our LCA lighting timer delivers on the promise of set it and forget it.

There are two types of timers—manual ones that you have to set to make the necessary changes or those managed by Lighting Control Automation (LCA). These super convenient timers are a mega improvement over outdated manual timers because they automatically adjust to daylight savings time changes. You don’t even have to think about dials or buttons or figuring out how to re-reprogram it to the proper time. No matter what your lifestyle, a LCA timer can be easily adapted to suit your needs—even if you have to leave work really early in the morning and need additional light or walk the dog before bed time. An LCA timer provides additional light exactly when you need it.

LCA’s are great if you travel often or have a vacation home that you are not frequently at, as you can control the lighting to make it appear as if someone is always home to deter thieves.  And as the days get longer or shorter, these timers simply change to acclimate to the light conditions of the season. LCA’s make your outdoor lighting system easy and effortless to manage without having to get involved with annoying programming. Since they can control lighting to a very precise degree, they also save you money on the power bill since you don’t need to waste lighting during times you simply don’t need it.

Nashville outdoor lighting

LCA’s are so cool and adaptable that you can even set your lights to come at 50% power earlier in the evening and then gradually get brighter as night wears on. This feature not only saves energy, but it also adds great ambiance in your landscape. There is so much beyond just outdoor lights that you can do, including controlling your indoor lights and appliances to come on automatically as well.  The convenience that this type of automation provides is pretty revolutionary. And the fact that you control all these facets directly from your smart phone or laptop just makes adding a service like this a no-brainer. It doesn’t matter where you are, you can control or change the system as needed. The options are pretty extensive.

Earth Day is Tuesday, April 22nd. Remember that making a difference begins with YOU!

Earth Day 2014Today marks the 44th year we have celebrated Earth Day. I am sure you have heard about it, but do you know what it means? Or how it began?

What is Earth Day?

Every year on April 22nd, over a billion people in 190 countries take action for Earth Day. Just like Earth Days of the past, Earth Day 2014 will focus on the unique environmental challenges of our time. By taking heed as the world’s population migrates to cities, and as reality of climate change begins to come to fruition, the need to create sustainable communities is now more important than ever. Earth Day 2014 will seek to do just that through its global theme: Green Cities. The day is set aside to raise awareness of our daily impact on the world around us and how we can make a change for the better by making smart investments in sustainable technology, forward-thinking public policy, and an educated and active public, we can transform our cities and forge a sustainable future.

Silent SpringHow did Earth Day begin?

The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970 which  is known by many to mark the beginning of the modern environmental movement. In 1970, here in the US, the hippie movement was drawing to a close. Musicians that headed the age and mood of the time, such as Jimi Henrix and Janis Joplin, died that same year, and the Beatles released their final album. Even though protest plagued the nation, environmental concerns were not at the root of the riots. The war at Vietnam took center stage, as did all those opposed to it.

At the same time, automobiles with large V8 engines gobbled up gasoline. Industry forged on polluting the environment with smokestacks and runoff within a world where little or no recourse was sought towards the effect our actions had on the environment. This all changed as a little known book, by Rachel Carson, written in 1962 titled ” Silent Spring” sold more than half a million copies in 24 countries and began to open the eyes of our nation, and the world. Maybe more than any one single person, Ms. Carson helped to raise public awareness and concern for living organisms, the environment and public health.

The inaugural Earth Day held in 1970 capitalized on the emerging consciousness, channeling the energy of the anti-war protest movement and putting environmental concerns front and center. This initiated the continuation of observing an annual Earth Day in an effort to raise awareness of the impact our actions, negative and positive, can have on the planet.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives LED path light

We offer our clients a way to invest in tomorrow through the use of “green” outdoor lighting technologies such as LED.

Here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we take the concerns that are observed during Earth Day very seriously every day. By providing a more environmentally sustainable approach to outdoor lighting with our LED lighting technology we are striving to make a difference. LED is by far, more energy-efficient, cleaner and a more eco-friendly way of outdoor illumination than other types of lighting. LED’s have a life expectancy in excess of 50,000 hours, which means less waste from bulb replacement. In addition, LED’s do not contain toxic chemicals. Most conventional bulbs contain a multitude of materials such as mercury that are dangerous for the environment. LED is also low-voltage, and energy-efficient which will save a tremendous amount in operating costs.  We are proud to be the Nashville area’s leading force for LED outdoor lighting.

LED lights are long lasting, energy efficient and among the safest lights on the market today for outdoor lighting.

LED lights are long lasting, energy efficient and more sustainable than other lighting genres.

In addition we, along with our parent company, and our local manufacturing company (B&B Mfg.), are also practicing what we preach about sustainable living practices. We are operating under a “green” approach to our workplace by recycling materials such as copper fixtures. We also recycle all the paper in our office and our goal is to allocate a paperless system in the near future by incorporating tablets with each of our field workers. We are also moving towards an automatic bill pay system so we save paper by not having to send out invoices each month. We have also installed solar panels on our building as well, to reflect the importance of less impact on the environment by reducing power consumption.

Solar_Panels_LR_5

We installed solar panels on our building to decrease energy usage in our workplace, and our direct impact on the environment.

By working in a field of expertise, such as outdoor lighting, that now has the technology to offer homeowners a more sustainable living product, such as upgradeable LED bulbs that never get discarded in a land-fill but can be refurbished to reuse, it is only natural to begin at the core of our business. The workplace. Hopefully, each employee, delivery-person, and individual whom frequents our office will have these sustainability practices “rub off” on he/she and take a little piece of that realization back home with them creating a ripple-effect of sustainability initiatives to live by — taking a little piece of the “Earth Day” mentality away with them for tomorrow.

Remember, that what we do today, will affect tomorrow —

With LCA, you have complete control in the palm of your hand. This feature is so robust it will even allow you to turn your lights on/off from the other side of the world through any internet connection.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville gives you the top 5 favorite reasons to make outdoor lighting at your home this years resolution

Nashville TN home after outdoor lighting

This home in Nashville stands as a beacon of beauty and peace of mind with professional outdoor lighting.

The New Year is just days away, and with i’s arrival comes the time to make your annual New Year’s resolution. Choosing a resolution, or goal to achieve within the coming year is the easy part, all good intentions aside keeping and fulfilling it can be much more difficult. According to research conducted by Proactive Change 40%- 45% of Americans will make one or more resolutions this year. This same data also indicates that only 75% of those Americans will still be sticking to succeeding in their goal past the first week, and after 6 months only 46% will still be on track. Making a New Year’s resolution is one thing, but sticking to it to reach your inspired goal is quite another. I believe that this is due in part to the fact that most resolutions we set are too difficult, this year why not make a resolution that is easily accessible? Resolving to make your home and landscape a safer, more secure and beautiful place to live is a great resolution and  is easy with the addition of outdoor lighting.

Outdoor lighting adds many benefits to your home. From strengthening your homes curb appeal to thwarting off would-be burglars. A home and landscape that is charming by day will become dazzling in the evening by adding outdoor lighting. Here is just a few of the reasons to make outdoor lighting the one New Year’s resolution that is easy to keep.

bright and beautiful with outdoor lighting

This home is bright and beautiful thanks to outdoor lighting.

1) An end to coming home each night to a dark house – this alone is reason enough to install professional outdoor lighting at your home. Dark and dimly lit areas around your home and within your landscape leave you open to unsavory activity.  In the evening, darkness and fear of the unknown go hand-in-hand. If security is a concern outdoor lighting is critical. Having ample lighting around doorways, rear entrances of the home, garages and carports can help create a secure environment when entering your home and leaving. This security can be taken even a step further by adding LCA, (Lighting Control Animation), which can ensure your lights will be on whenever you need them. This convenient automation even allows you to control your outdoor lighting from remote locations.

 Nashville Deck and patio lighting

A well-lit deck or patio will enable you to use your outdoor space long after the sun sets.

2) Being able to entertain outdoors past sundown – have you ever had a summer barbecue on your deck or patio and just when the party gets rolling you have to cut it short because of the lack of light? By adding outdoor lighting in and around your outdoor spaces, this will never have to happen again. You can entertain into the wee hours if you wish with no worry of interrupting the treasured memories you will be creating with family and friends.

Nashville landscape lighting and path lighting

Path and landscape lighting aids in more secure travel when venturing outdoors in the evening.

3) Your kids won’t have to run from imaginary monsters anymore – Admit it, even as an adult your imagination wanders when you are forced to venture outdoors in the dark. Professionally installed landscape and path lighting will put an end to the creepy feeling that can overcome you when you venture to areas within your landscape at night. From getting the forgotten bike out of the driveway, to retrieving the expensive iPod that was left next to the kids swing set, you will feel more aware and more secure of your surroundings with outdoor lighting.

Nashville uplighting

Outdoor lighting makes this home’s entrance inviting and memorable.

4) A great way to make a lasting first impression – the first place to begin creating a warm and welcoming entrance to your home is with outdoor lighting. Path lighting in particular gently illuminates the path to your front door in an effective way to create ambiance and set the mood for things to come. Architectural and facade lighting that makes your homes most beautiful features come to life will lead the eye to drink in the unique characteristics of your home too. When guests remember visiting your home for the first time, a lasting impression of beauty and a welcoming atmosphere will enter their minds when you have professional outdoor lighting.

Nashville tree lighting

Outdoor lighting brings forgotten areas of your landscape to life.

5) Fall in love with your home and landscape all over again – seeing your home and landscape in a whole new way, with the right outdoor lighting can make you fall in love with your home and landscape over and over again for years to come. One wonderful aspect of having outdoor lighting and especially landscape lighting, is the beauty of seeing your surroundings change with the seasons. From the gold and amber hues of autumn, to the greens and blooming buds of spring and summer, your home and yard will transform into something new and beautiful with the arrival of each season.

Nashville professional landscape and garden lighting

Professional landscape lighting can create evening vignettes of beauty in your landscape.

By taking all the positive benefits of outdoor lighting into account you will see that resolving to add outdoor lighting goes much further than just making your home “another pretty face”. Our approach to a greener workplace promotes sustainability, which affects our world on a global level.

Nowadays, everyone you talk to is discussing the importance of living in a world where sustainability practices are key to preserving our environment on a global level. Small changes in the way you live and function on a daily basis can impact the entire planet in the big scheme of things. This includes the way you function on a professional level as well. Discussing the importance of sustainable living practices is one thing, but ” talking the talk” and “walking the walk” is another. Outdoor Living Perspectives of Nashville is instilling sustainable practices in our everyday professional duties in an effort to make a habit out of trying to better our lives and the lives of our grandchildren in years to come.

Hopefully, each employee, delivery-person, and individual whom frequents our office will have these sustainability practices “rub off” on he/she and take a little piece of that realization back home with them creating a ripple-effect of sustainability initiatives to live by.  Remember, that what we do today, will affect tomorrow.

Our LCA technology gets you out of the dark and adds confidence to your lifestyle

The House

A safe house is a well-lit house. LCA makes this possible from driveway to den.

Do you cringe when entering your driveway and garage area late at night because you know you will have to fumble to find that back door key in the minimal moonlight? Do you worry that your home will become a target for thieves while you and your family are away on summer vacation? If these scenarios sound familiar to you then Outdoor Lighting  of Nashville can help. Our lighting control automation, or LCA, technology can make you life easier and offer you the conveniences that you never dreamed possible.

One of the features that is available with our LCA technology is what we refer to as ” the driveway sensor”. This feature puts an end to coming home to a dark house and can’t find the keys situation you may be finding yourself in. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville programs the lights to automatically come on when you enter your driveway at night. Not only are you ensured safe passage right to your door, but we can program the feature to automatically turn on any multitude of chosen exterior and interior lights as well. This will safely take you from the top of the driveway to the safety of your home interior after a hard day with no worry or struggle, just peace of mind.

Another wonderful feature we offer is what we call “someone’s home”. This feature can be programmed with both your interior and exterior lights to give the appearance that someone is home, by simultaneously cutting on both indoor and outdoor lighting to mimic the pattern in correspondence with someone walking around their home at night. These lights are programmed so if the home is being watched, no one is the wiser, and your home is safe while you and your family is away having fun.

A great feature we offer using LCA technology is called the “safe entry” feature. This feature works much like the driveway sensor feature, the difference is the technology is programmed into a key fab you can place on your key chain to turn on both interior and exterior lighting at the simple touch of a button.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville proudly offers these LCA features  and many more to our valued outdoor lighting customers to make their lives hassle free, and their home safer. Remember: a well-lit home is a safer home indeed.
