The Excitement Mounts as Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville Lights the Capitol Tree for 5th Consecutive Year!

2016-christmas-tree-at-the-capitol-downtown-nashvilleEach and every day here at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville we are proud and honored to serve the outdoor lighting needs for homeowners and business owners all over Nashville and the surrounding area. Our success has never been something we take for granted and we take pride in every installation, from the smallest maintenance call to the over-the-top holiday lighting displays that require months of planning. With this in mind, we cannot convey the feeling we get when we are asked to design and install a lighting display that will bring so much joy to so many — like the Christmas tree at the Capitol in downtown Nashville.

This is our fifth consecutive year of being asked to illuminate the tree. The tree chosen to grace the capitol for holiday 2016 was cut down in Hermitage and it stands 35 feet tall and 24 feet wide. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is finishing the tree with a mix of glittering red and gold decorations and warm white LED lights — that’s all the details I can convey as to not to give away too many spoilers before this beauty is lit! I can however, share a few of the “in progress” images we shot while our crews were working hard to get this majestic tree ready for its unveiling…

Governor Haslam will continue the tradition of flipping the switch for all to enjoy!

To help get you in the festive spirit and in honor of all the Christmases past, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville has put together a little video featuring the last four years of having the honor to be involved with this amazing project…enjoy!

Christmas at the Capitol 2015 Glows Brightly With This Norway Spruce!

Beautiful photo taken by Greg Pirtle. Christmas at the Capitol 2015.

We must be doing something quite right at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville because we were asked for the 4th year to in a row to illuminate the Christmas tree at the capitol in downtown Nashville! We were immensely flattered and humbled that Music City had entrusted us with such an immense honor, and we couldn’t wait to make this year another bright one for our hometown of Nashville.

Details about this year’s tree:

This year’s Christmas conifer came to us via Theresa and Jimmy Carter of Old Hickory. They were the proud owners of the Norway Spruce evergreen they planted in 2001 that is now over 30 feet tall. The tree simply got too big for their property so they submitted their desire to the governor’s office to cut the tree down to use for the Nashville Christmas tree lighting celebration. A year later they discovered that their tree was in fact selected to their elation. It was then our job at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville to make sure the Carter tree was lit up in a magical way to show it off in the best possible way and make Nashville proud.

We wrapped red, silver and gold string lights on this year’s tree that added up to miles of illumination. The Norway Spruce was then capped off with a mega sized star. Tanya Tucker rocked the Capitol with her hits and festive Christmas songs; and when the First Lady and Governor Haslam pushed the button the crowd went wild with excitement. The shouts of “WOW!” and “COOL!” are really what make this project so worthwhile for us in the end. Delighting kids and adults alike are what this season is all about for us, and we simply can’t wait to do it all over again next year if the opportunity arises. You can go to Legislative Plaza and check out the Carter Tree and our lighting handiwork for the entire holiday season!

Though the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Capitol is a mega sized project for Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville, we do small projects every day at regular residences and businesses just like yours and ours. Not everything is always on such a grand scale, and we are happy to do fabulous job on a budget that fits your needs and lifestyle. We treat every single project we do with the same enthusiasm, energy and level of professionalism. We work on projects all year long and not just in warm weather, so if you need a brand new outdoor lighting system or an addition to your current landscape lighting scheme—we are eager to talk to you about your ideas.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville chosen to light the tree for Christmas at the Capitol for 4th consecutive year!

2015 Nashville capital tree is on the way

The excitement is mounting!

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is honored and proud to have been chosen to light the Tennessee state capitol Christmas tree this year! This will mark our 4th consecutive year in lighting the tree. This year’s tree and celebratory “tree lighting” in the capitol promises just as much magic and family fun as year’s past. Being involved in-depth with the festivities, we do not want to  convey any “spoilers” for the event, but thus far the plans are to feature ornaments along with lights in colors of gold, silver and red. This year’s Christmas tree came from James and Theresa Carter in Madison. It is a Norwood Spruce weighing 1,700 pounds and is 27′ wide & about 30′ feet high.

The annual tree lighting event is scheduled to take place Monday, November 30th, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm CST. Governor Bill Haslam and his wife will be flipping the switch marking the beginning of TN holiday season in the capitol. The tree is located at the TN State Capitol at 600 Charlotte Ave., in beautiful Nashville, TN.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville hopes you and your family can attend this extraordinary event. To help get you in the spirit, here is a look back into the archives at the previous Christmas tree’s we have been proud to light at the capitol:

  • 2014 — Last year’s capitol  tree was adorned in over one mile of lights to illuminate this majestic tree via an 80 ft. articulated lift to ensure every light was placed in the perfect spot to shine brightest. We also topped off this beauty with a three-foot jeweled star as the finishing touch. 2014’s tree was a 55-foot Norway Spruce chosen from the Cumberland Forest, where the University of Tennessee uses roughly 8,000 acres of land for research.

  • 2013 — We chose a classic theme of red and gold for the 2013 capitol tree.

  • 2012 — The 2012 capitol tree was a majestic 30-foot Norway spruce moved to Nashville from state-owned land located in Arrington. We made sure the tree shone in its holiday best filled with over 6,000 LED lights and festive ornaments courtesy of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville stays on trend with the hottest outdoor lighting techniques

Tree lighting by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville

The ethereal illumination of proper moon lighting is achieved by using multi-layering throughout the trees canopy

One of the hottest trends in outdoor living design is outdoor lighting. Outdoor lighting procures a safe and secure environment around your home but in addition also provides loads of aesthetic value. A recent post by HGTV Remodels indicates the market demand for outdoor lighting is on the rise. They also point out four outdoor lighting techniques that can deliver the effect most homeowners are looking for. These are up lighting, down lighting, zonal lighting and moonlighting. Now, to someone who is not familiar with outdoor lighting terminology, these types of outdoor lighting can sound like a foreign language. In order to get the most out of your outdoor lighting it is important to become familiar with these lighting techniques so you and your professional lighting specialist will be on the same page.

Nashville uplighting

We used up lighting on this home to accentuate the width and depth of the home and bring out special features such as the columns.

Up lighting – this lighting technique is used in both architectural and landscape lighting applications. We use up lighting to accentuate the height, width and depth of your home. This lighting technique is also used within the landscape to add drama and focus to trees, and other areas of interest in the landscape.

Down lighting – down lighting plays upon the same principles as up lighting. Down lighting can be used as an innovative way to enhance your home’s architectural features. Down lighting is also the most widely used technique to illuminate walkways and pathways. Down lighting can promote safety along the most frequented areas around your home and within your yard.

Focal point lighting – focal lighting such as focal tree lighting, waterfall lighting and statuary lighting is the best way to highlight an area or object of beauty in your landscape. Our exclusive focal point lighting uses soft washes of light to enhance your object or space. This technique ensures your eye is drawn to the object we are illuminating rather than the light source itself.

Moonlighting – this appropriately named lighting technique mimics the effects of the light present during a full moon. A combination of up lighting and down lighting is used to create this hauntingly beautiful technique. We often design moonlighting within trees in the landscape to not only illuminate the tree in a unique way, but also the area that surrounds the tree.  Dramatic shadowing and ambient light combine to create moonlighting that is a work of art.

Garden and landscape lighting includes statuary lighting

Focal point lighting works beautifully when lighting statuary or other areas of interest in your landscape.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville is the area’s oldest and best known professional outdoor lighting company. Our outdoor lighting designs include the most popular outdoor lighting techniques. Each of our designs is customized to deliver the most function and beauty. Our exclusive fixtures are manufactured just for Outdoor Lighting Perspective locations. All of our fixtures are constructed from the highest quality materials like copper and solid brass that enable them to blend into your landscape. The goal of any professional outdoor lighting design is to see the area or object of illumination rather than the fixture. Our designs master this beautifully, and our fixtures are built to last season after season.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville lights this years Christmas tree at the Tennessee Capitol to rave reviews

Capital holiday tree lighting

Governor Haslam and the First Lady at the tree lighting ceremony Monday night.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville was proud to be a part of the kickoff to the TN holiday season. Amid a flurry of guests brimming over with holiday spirit, Governor Bill Haslam and first lady Crissy Haslam lit the Christmas tree at the Tennessee Capitol Monday evening. The Tree, which is a majestic 30-foot Norway spruce, features over 6,000 LED lights and festive ornaments courtesy of Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville. The tree stands three feet taller than last year’s tree and holds twice as many lights.

The tree was moved to Nashville from state-owned land located in Arrington in honor of the annual Capitol tree lighting which took place Monday, November 26th.

As the Governor and his wife lit the tree, the transition from dark to watching the tree come alive with the Capitol building as the backdrop was truly magical. Even as rain sprinkled from the sky, you could hear the reaction of the crowd as a unified sound of enchantment. Nashville’s WKRN TV News 2 was there to film the event and you can watch a video of  the tree being lit here;  http://www.wkrn.com/story/20187317/nashville-christmas-tree-lighting-ceremony

This image shows the majestic 30 foot Norway spruce just before it was lit for the first time across from the capitol building.

The event for state employees, their families and the public was held on the plaza across from the Capitol building. The evening celebrations also included horse and carriage rides, a visit from Santa and recording artist Chris Young and even a reindeer named Comet. This event will definitely be held close to the hearts of our Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Nashville’s crew. All the planning, design and teamwork that went into lighting this tree paid off when the tree was lit for the first time. We will always remember the moment, and are proud to have played such a crucial role in making the evening a success!

You can create the same type of holiday magic with outdoor lighting at your home. Our huge selection of Christmas lighting elements and varied techniques in installing the lights can make your holiday just as breathtaking and magical as the lighting at the Capitol. Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree, how lovely are thy branches

Nashville tree lighting with lit presents underneath

This large evergreen is lit with all white LED lights and a bundle of lighted presents sits beneath its branches beckoning Santa’s arrival.

When you think about all the parts of what make a holiday lighting display memorable the beautifully lit trees are what comes to most of our minds. There is simply something magical about adding light to a tree in any genre of outdoor lighting. It is like the tree comes to life under the glow of the lights. Each tree in your landscape has a specific personality. This is conveyed through the form of the tree, from its height, width and the manner in which the branches extrude. Our job as outdoor lighting professionals is to determine which type of lighting will best fit the personality of each tree and bring out the beauty and presence that makes a lighted tree a joy to behold. We use a variety of fixtures, angles, techniques and effects to achieve this when the tree is part of a landscape lighting installation. We also use a varied scope of holiday lighting elements to achieve the same thing when we light the tree as part of a holiday outdoor lighting display as well.

Nashville holiday tree lighting

Wrapping the branches and limbs of trees that have since lost their foliage in the fall creates a hauntingly beautiful effect.

Remember that trimming the holiday tree does not have to end with your indoor tree(s). There is nothing more gracious or charming than driving up the lane of a residence which is lined with evergreens lit for the season, or seeing that one magnificent majestic cedar all aglow in the front yard of your home.

To give you a little taste of the enchantment you can create in your landscape this season, here is a look into the beautiful world of Nashville holiday tree lighting for the outside of your home.

Nashville TN Christmas tree outdoor lights

This elegant trio of conifers welcomes you as you enter the property of this home. This look was achieved by selecting a trio of evergreens within the homeowner’s landscape and wrapping the trees with white LED strands. We furthered the effect by placing staked lighted LED starbursts around the base of the trees which also complements the rustic rock border along the property line.

Nashville holiday lights strung in the shape of a tree on the waterfront

Don’t have the perfect specimen in your landscape that would benefit from holiday tree lighting? Outdoor Perspectives of Nashville is the master of illusion; we can create the perfect specimen with special lighting techniques. This man-made Christmas tree sits in the center of the pond located on the property of this home. We simulated the shape of a tree with lighting. What makes this so dramatic is the way the lights reflect off the water for a magical illusion like no other.

Elegant Nashville Christmas tree lighting

This trio of lighted evergreens gives new meaning to the beloved Christmas song “We three kings”. This otherwise overlooked portion of the yard is brought to life for the season under the hypnotic spell of Christmas lighting. Sometimes the most common areas in your landscape can become the focus of a professional holiday lighting design.

Lighting hanging tree ornaments

Holiday icons, unique shapes and colored lights can become the focus of holiday tree lighting. Here we carefully hung lighted LED oversized Christmas ornaments from the branches of this tree. The result is pure enchantment.

Nashville lighted starbursts in tree lighting

When you wish upon a star, that star may become the highlight of your holiday lighting design. We carefully wrapped the trunk of this tree with white LED lights, and to add a touch of magic we hung lighted LED starbursts from the branches. The combination looks elegant used together and makes onlookers stop and wish their holiday lighting was this imaginative and unique!

Nashville TN outdoor Christmas lights lighted trees and garlands

The mature evergreen bushes that line the entry to this stunning home are large enough to serve as trees. Their height, width and form lend themselves as the perfect candidate for tree lighting.  This ingenious design proves that we can come up with unique solutions and techniques to add holiday tree lighting, even if you lack trees in your landscape.

We can also bring your outdoor Christmas tree to life by synchronizing your favorite holiday music in time with dancing lights, as seen in this video…..

As you can clearly see, there is no end to the magic and wonder professional holiday tree lighting can add to your landscape this season. Here in TN fall is the reason for the season, and a great time to consider adding tree lighting to your landscape

Maple in the fall

Maples, which are native to Nashville, offer some of the most vibrant fall foliage of all trees.

I cannot speak for everyone, but fall is the season that makes me thankful I live in Tennessee. Our autumns offer some of the most beautiful examples of Mother Nature’s majesty with the changing of the leaves. Tennessee is noted as having some of the most spectacular fall foliage of anywhere on the map. Tourists come from all over the country just to see our colorful display. There are even mapped tours such as the Natchez Trace Parkway that offer some of the most beautiful renderings of fall foliage as anywhere in the U.S.  Along with the color of the forests, many of those same trees that exude fiery color each fall are found in many of the landscapes of those who reside in Nashville. Being a resident means you have to travel no further than your backyard in order to see the ambers and crimsons of the season. This very reason is enough to consider introducing a way to extend the hours you are able to drink in this beauty by adding professional tree lighting into your landscape.

The changing colors of this tree under the spell of professional tree lighting add to this picture perfect image.

Professional tree lighting is an art in itself. By adding this specialized area of landscape lighting to your property you will also add the ability to savor the colors of fall with no time limits. Nashville Japanese Maple lighting

The unique form and wide spreading branches of the Japanese Maple make it a perfect tree for focal tree lighting.

Our area provides a plethora of native trees such as oaks, maples, poplars and birches that come to life during the fall. Many of these native trees are abundant in our landscape designs and make a perfect starting point for landscape lighting. Along with the trees that are native to our area, ornamental trees are also popular landscape choices and offer visual interest with the changing season as well.

Our many tree lighting techniques add drama and a focal point in your yard. Each tree we light is enhanced by the subtle elements involved in properly illuminating it without overpowering it. We use a combination of up lighting to accentuate the height and majesty of the tree.  We also include well lights, wide-angle bulbs and moonlighting to accentuate the width a depth of the tree we are lighting. Each tree is treated as an individual. We take the tree’s special characteristic into consideration to decide which lighting element will work best. Our technique uses a soft wash of romantic light to bring out the distinct beauty of each specimen.
